Publishing and Media Law includes copyright and trademark, publishing and agency agreements, contract negotiation and Internet Law. We provide a broad range of legal services to publishers, agents, authors, and web sites. We have reviewed hundreds of publishing and agency agreements, for both new and veteran writers. Our services include:
- Prepublication “vetting” of manuscripts for publishers and authors;
- Drafting and negotiation of publishing contracts, movie option agreements, collaboration agreements, and agency agreements;
- Drafting terms of use and privacy policies for web sites;
- Software licensing; website development agreements and content licenses; vendor agreements; and
- Advice and representation on issues of copyright, trademark, defamation, and privacy invasion in publishing agreements.

Daniel Steven devotes a large part of his practice to publishing law, copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property matters. His clients include book, magazine, newspaper, audio, video and electronic publishers, authors, agents, designers, artists and photographers, and any business with intellectual property assets and issues, including health care professionals and entities. He serves as Chair of the Contracts and Grievances Committee of the Mystery Writers of America, and is the organization’s monthly columnist. He has been a newsletter and book editor, and is the former publisher of AlignMark Information Publishing, a division of Thomson Reuters. He also served as publisher and Vice President of a venture capital funded Internet startup. As a freelance writer, he has contributed to both Writer’s Digest and The Writer. He is the author of four books: Final Remedy (HarperCollins, 1996) (novel), Clinical Trials (HarperCollins, 1998) (novel), Health Care Practice Management (Warren Gorham Lamont, 1995) and The Street Smart Writer (Nomad Press, 2006) (co-author).
